The Liberal Catholic Ecclesial Communion is an agreement for Ecclesial Communion between individuals and autocephalous jurisdictions who or which are members of the Liberal Catholic Alliance.
Since the Liberal Catholic Church was so named in England in 1918, and perhaps for a decade or so before, a process of growth and diversification has occurred resulting in what may truly be described as a Liberal Catholic Movement.
The establishment of the Liberal Catholic Alliance was an attempt to provide a directory of as many as possible of the resources available to those seeking a faith community which is closely aligned to traditional Liberal Catholic philosophy and Liturgy. It is not a jurisdiction in itself, but a listing of participating bodies which stand in the Liberal Catholic tradition.

The members of the Liberal Catholic Alliance welcome to their altars all who reverently and sincerely approach them.
Even so, in some circumstances, churches feel it desirable to enter into more formal arrangements with each other through agreements which will deal with, for example, mutual recognition of orders, interchangeability of ministers etc.
Member jurisdictions of the LCA are free to enter into agreements of inter-communion with such other jurisdictions as they chose, whether or not those other jurisdictions are also members of the Alliance.
The Liberal Catholic Ecclesial Communion is one such specific agreement participation in which is limited to members of the Liberal Catholic Alliance. Participation in the LCEC is voluntary and parties may withdraw from the agreement without forfeiting membership of the LCA. Parties are also free to participate in other intercommunion agreements including those with bodies which do not belong to the LCA.
